Intro to Ashtanga Full Primary/Elementary Series
Sunday May 7 - 3pm - 5pm
Challenge your strength, endurance, flexibility and agility through an introduction of Ashtanga Primary Series for beginners and beyond. There will be a short discussion followed by a steady guided practice through the standing postures. Then we will mindfully practice through the Primary Series (seated) with interruptions to explore modifications for every level. We will NOT spend a lot of time on the closing/inversions in this workshop. Recommended to have 6 months vinyasa experience or able to perform sun salutations without trouble.

Follow the Yogi - Complete Ashtanga Full Primary/Elementary Series
Sunday May 21 - 3pm - 5pm
Building on the first workshop, Ricky will practice with students while calling out the choreography of the breath and movements without interruption at a moderate and steady pace. This particular style of class allows students to see and feel the essence of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. We will end class with a sample of the Ashtanga Pranayama sequence (breathing exercise) that Pattabhi Jois taught directly to David Williams, who taught Ricky in 2009. Must have 6 months vinyasa experience or able to perform sun salutations without trouble.

Follow the Yogi - Intro to Ashtanga Second/Intermediate Series (Nervous System Purification)
Sunday June 4 - 3pm - 5pm
Second Series is known for its progressive back-bending sequence and inversions. This class will begin with a short talk followed by a Follow the Yogi practice for most of the series. While this series is progressive, some postures are actually easier than some from the First Series. This series is designed to invigorate and purify the nervous system, and that can sometimes mean emotional release and healing. Please do not take this workshop if you have spine/disc issues and back-bending hurts. Must have 6 months vinyasa experience or able to perform sun salutations without trouble.

Registration for each workshop closes the day before the workshop begins.

Srivatsa Ramaswami, one-on-one student of T Krishnamacharya for 33 years. He is the teacher whom I have learned the most about yoga. He's taught me Krishnamacharya's Vinyasa Krama (asana, vinyasa, pranayama), direct translation of ancient texts, e.g. Yoga Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Samkhya Karika, just to name a few. I have learned a tremendous amount of Sanskrit through this master's blessings.

Original Ashtanga Yogis David Swenson, David Williams, (Ricky Tran) and Danny Paradise @Ashtanga Mela 2010. These first generation Ashtangis showed me by example how one can continue to practice yoga for the rest of your life.

The Amazing Kumar Pallana, actor, performer, comedian, yogi, taught me that no matter the age of the student, everyone must be taught to laugh and breathe.

Sri Dharma Mitra, circa 2009 taught me about ahimsa and devotion. The master reminds us that the goal of yoga is Self-Realization. He is as his name implies, a friend to all.

Inspired by Bryan Kest Power Yoga, through Suze Curtis, my first yoga teacher. Learn to be comfortable when uncomfortable. Listen. Respond vs. React.
