Yoga Sutra Book Club 2023
Unpacking the #yogasutras with me, Ricky Tran
I've made a lecture series available to the public, recorded over the course of about 9 months in 2023. This series is intended for those seeking a deeper understanding of the Royal Path, or #rajayoga, which focuses on meditation and the mind. It also includes #hathayoga, the yoga of the physical and energy bodies.
For anyone striving to discover the ultimate truth or gain profound self-understanding, this is the path. The series unpacks the #Patanjali Yoga Sutra, providing a comprehensive guide to enlightenment by laying out the theory of yoga, the means for attainment, and the results of practice.
I have done my best to present the Patanjali Yoga Sutra as I learned it from Srivatsa Ramaswami, who was a direct student of Sri Tirumala Krishnamacharya. In these talks, we explore the original Sanskrit, English translations, and their meanings. I refer to a self published book written by Pam Hoxsey, a fellow student of Ramaswami. She spent 2 weeks interviewing him for the book. I humbly ask for forgiveness for any errors in my/our translations or interpretations.
As my teacher quotes T. Krishnamacharya: one's yoga practice should be consistent with the shastras, or ancient scriptures. The Yoga Sutra serves as a manual for training the mind by focusing and quieting it, allowing us to journey beyond perception. While my teachings stay true to the shastras, I often present the material in a way that is tailored to the needs of the student, as I believe T. Krishnamacharya would have done.
In-joy and feel free to share!
Hari Om Tat Sat
Together, "Hari Om Tat Sat" is an affirmation of the divine truth and reality, often used as a mantra to remind oneself of the higher truth and divine presence in all things. It invokes a connection to the ultimate reality and aligns one's mind with spiritual essence.
